Prepared for Floods & Wind
A restaurant in Kentucky self-flooded their riverside business before the muddy, murky waters encroached on their property. The clean water kept out the dirty. The strategy to keep the interior clean seemed to be working. Cleanup after will be simpler. SEE THE CLIP
We also can keep the muddy water of the world out of our lives we are filled up with the Word of God, the Holy Spirit, and the Gospel of peace to share with others. Bible study, prayer, and holy practices seem like a strange idea to someone outside of Jesus. Proactively, filling up on the goodness of life from the Source, instead of waiting until the muddy water of life is seeping in will protect you on the day of difficulty.
This illustration is not a direct correlation, but the heart of Jesus' message is the same:
Jesus said, “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock.
"When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins." Luke 6:44-49 NLT
When Jesus is the foundation, he is the One who can protect us. Be filled with the Spirit of Jesus and keep out the pollution of the world. You've been around long enough to know the storms of life will always come, are you doing what you can to be prepared? Or just winging it?
Pray: Jesus, show me where I have lapsed. I surrender to your plan, fill me with your Spirit. Give me wisdom to do the work now to be ready for whatever comes my way. Amen.
