Living in Balance

Is it possible to live life telling God every morning that you're flexible for whatever He has for you? Is it possible to push that even further by not having a plan, and just living by the seat of our "faith pants"?

Sometimes that is all we can do with our lives. This was a lesson I learned while I was on vacation and really struggling with the expectations of everyone (including myself) and reality. For example: every morning I woke up before I wanted to (between 5:30 - 7:00 a.m) and had to surrender to what God had in store for me. Even on days that I had a clear plan of what I wanted to do, if I didn't say, "God it's up to you to direct this if it's Your will," then I was very disappointed when my plans didn't work out (notice I didn't say "if my plans didn't work out", because they only worked on rare occasion).

When there has been a change of life, major or minor, often we are forced to be flexible in our plans every day. It is not an easy lesson to learn for most of us, we like having control of our destinies (so-to-speak)-and resist the pain of change. We don't enjoy the sensation of being imbalanced. However, when God says in the Bible, "commit your way to Him and He will direct your paths," He means it. This is where we can find the balance we crave; in trusting God to direct our daily path.

Now is a good time to practice this, as we have struggles moment by moment. When those moments when life is not so clear and balanced we have already learned our daily prayer of commitment and reliance upon the grace of God. And when we become really good at simply balancing with God we can be like the gymnasts on the balance beam, who not only walk fearlessly, they've learned to dance.

"The LORD Almighty is my strength. He makes my feet like those of a deer. He makes me walk on the mountains." Habakkuk 3:19
