Old Ways

Okay, so it's been seemingly ages since I've blogged. But the time between April and July is hardly a blip on the map of time. Which leads quite well into my "Good Thought" for the day.
Read today from Jeremiah verse 6 and it spoke of asking which is the ancient paths, the old way of living and walk in it so you might have "rest for your souls."
Asking God which is the "old way" I got this answer from 1 Peter 3:8-9,
"Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing."
It is an old-fashioned ideal that the Bible exhorts us to live while we are certainly in an era self-promotion, ego-centered living, killing ourselves to be self-satisfying. How are we to live? Like the perfect model, Jesus. His way of living in harmony was to show love, even if it meant offending the ones who weren't loving. He was compassionate to the needs of the inconvienient problems people had. He continually blessed those that cursed him, even those that hated him while he was dying.
Amazing and impossible example, but I encourage you today and for the rest of your earthly life: Learn to love each person as a brother. Be compassionate to the needs of others, while remaining humble in the good works and possibly praise that will ensue because of your generosity to bless (whether in words or in actions).
The blip your life will end up being on the map of history will be remembered by very few as the years advance, so make your life count as one lived in harmony and blessings. You can't take anything with you when you die, so might as well give what you can while alive.
