The part of a race that has the potential to make or break a contestants' success is not necessarily the finish line, sometimes it's on the firing of the starting pistol. In any race there is a penalty for a false start, too many times beginning on your timing, before the BANG, can even get you serious penalties!
In the race of life, God's timing is not our own. He often holds the starting pistol on an area of our lives and watches for the proper time to let us begin. If it were up to us we would find the job we need, the house we want and the children we desire- the minute we decided it was good for us. Sometimes it's frustrating that He is better at deciding the "When," (and sometimes we are faced with "No") but we learn a valuable thing about His character and ours when the timing is His.
We learn that with His Spirit in us we can live above the desires in our hearts that may not be His desires for this moment. We also learn that it's a peaceful place to be, in the center of His Will. And when you think about it we do not know the future like God does. There are several situations that I can look back on and see how much God was at work, even when I was resisting His desires for me and my family.
I found this scripture to be encouraging, although wordy, full of the meat of today's "Good Thought:"
"His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Peter 1:3-8
